Ear surgery, or otoplasty, is employed to move prominent ears back, or to reduce the size of large ears. In the majority of cases, the operation is carried out on children between the ages of 4 and 14. Ears are fully developed by the age of 4, and the sooner surgery takes place, the less teasing the child will experience. Ear surgery on adults also occurs and, usually, there are no extra associated risks. An operation can also make a difference for large or stretched earlobes, or lobes that are wrinkled and creased.
